Nikon ZR Firmware 2.0 Breakdown & New Cinema Lenses

I just dropped a new video on YouTube ("Too Little Too Late? - Nikon ZR Firmware 2.0 is Here!") breaking down Nikon’s latest announcements. Long story short: the Nikon & RED synergy is finally showing real results.

Here is what actually matters in these updates:

  • RED Colors in H.265: Firmware 2.0 brings Log3G10 and REDWideGamutRGB directly to H.265 recording. You get highly manageable file sizes but keep massive latitude for color grading.
  • RAW & Peaking: Focus peaking is finally coming to R3D NE (RAW) recording, along with remote control via the RED Control apps.
  • The 2027 Promise: Nikon officially confirmed that Open Gate and anamorphic desqueeze are in development for 2027. It future-proofs the camera, even if the wait is long.
  • New Cine Lenses: Nine new NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV lenses are in development, starting with a 50mm. These cover the massive RED V-RAPTOR [X] VV sensor and feature highly precise autofocus. A serious move for both solo shooters and larger sets.

Is this enough to keep the Nikon ZR competitive, or is it simply too little, too late? Let me know your thoughts below. 👇
